There is little more than the sound of the waves teasing the shoreline, the crows and seagulls patiently waiting for the tide to slip away before swooping in for fresh clams to smash amongst the rocks. Three sides of the house are surrounded by thick forest; the fourth is open to the sea. Here, I can just be. There are no interruptions; no cell phone service means no constant 'buzz', no constant pull to something other than the here and now. No internet access means we're relatively cut off. For the first time in possibly a decade, I'm disconnected and it feels amazing.
We pass the time by cooking home made meals and sitting at an actual dining table rather than on the couch in front of the television. Today, the New Husband dragged the lounge chairs to a sunny spot overlooking the Cove. We sat in mostly silence just enjoying each others' company as well as the breathtaking views of Acadia National Park.
The messages we receive when we go to town are all about how great the wedding was; how much fun everyone had. It's been two days, though it could be two months or two years - it feels like a lifetime ago. All those months of planning and preparing to culminate in a gorgeous blast of extravagance, but the flowers die and the cakes go stale and our passion and love remain.
